Connecting Your Interactive Brokers (IBKR) Account

Interactive Brokers (IBKR) utilizes a highly secure First-Party OAuth architecture for individual automated trading. Unlike simple username/password connections, IBKR requires you to generate secure cryptographic keys. This ensures your account remains protected and allows you to trade automatically without sharing your primary login credentials.

Follow the steps below to configure your IBKR OAuth settings and generate your connection credentials.

  1. Step 1: Generate Your Cryptographic Keys

    IBKR requires specific security files to encrypt your trading connection. You will need to generate:

    • An RSA Signing Key (Public and Private)
    • An RSA Encryption Key (Public and Private)
    • A Diffie-Hellman (DH) Parameters file

    Note: You will need to generate these using OpenSSL terminal commands.

  2. Step 2: Access the IBKR OAuth Portal

    Log into the IBKR Client Portal. Navigate to your Account Settings by clicking your Profile Icon, then select User & Access Rights. Look for the OAuth settings page, or log in directly via the IBKR OAuth Configuration Portal.

  3. Step 3: Define Your Consumer Key

    In the OAuth configuration screen, toggle OAuth Access to “On”.

    You will be prompted to create a Consumer Key. This can be any random, unique alphanumeric string up to 9 characters long (e.g., MYAPP1234). Write this down, as you will need it later.

  4. Step 4: Upload Your Public Keys

    On the same OAuth configuration page, locate the file upload sections and upload the Public files you generated in Step 1:

    • Upload the Public Signing Key
    • Upload the Public Encryption Key
    • Upload the DH Parameters file

  5. Step 5: Generate Access Tokens

    Once your public files are successfully uploaded, use the IBKR portal to generate your Access Token and Access Token Secret. Copy these securely.

    Important: IBKR systems occasionally require an overnight server reset for newly created API keys to become fully active. If your connection fails immediately after setup, please wait 24 hours and try again.

  6. Step 6: Connect to Our Platform

    Return to your account settings on our platform and locate the Interactive Brokers integration. You will need to enter the following:

    • Consumer Key (from Step 3)
    • Access Token & Access Token Secret (from Step 5)
    • Private Signing Key & Private Encryption Key (generated in Step 1 — paste the raw text)

    Click Connect to initialize your secure live trading session.
